There are two standard types of lift trucks, those that run on gas and units that run on electricity:

Internal Combustion or IC Forklifts: The IC forklift would run on fuels like gas, liquid propane, compressed natural gas or CNG or diesel. Gas powered models are best suited for outdoor applications as they emit gases and pollutants which are harmful to employees and pedestrians. Gas units are also suitable to be used in the rain and in bad climate. These units could carry weights roughly 15,000 to 35,000 pounds. Because of the maintenance and fuel costs, the gas powered units are more expensive to use compared to models that run on electricity, however, they cost less up front compared to the electric units. The liquid propane units are the best option for safe use in indoor applications.

Electric Forklifts: Electric lift trucks take batteries which need regular charging. Because these models do not burn any fuel, there are no emissions polluting the air with these equipments. They are the best alternative for indoor applications and warehouses. Additionally, forklifts that run on electricity do not require any fuel storage units and they are a lot quieter to run compared to other units. Among the downsides of electric powered units is that they are unable to lift cargo more than 15,000 pounds and thus, have a slower acceleration compared to gasoline powered models.

The forklift is specially designed to transport goods and materials quickly and easily. Accidents do occur frequently like is the case with most types of vehicles. There are specific safety rules that have to be followed to be able to keep everyone safe. The most essential concern is recruiting a trained operator, who would be able to show you a valid lift truck license.

There are numerous different kinds of lift trucks offered on the market. Deciding which one is best for your particular requirements would be based on the type of environment your machinery will need to operate in, for instance, indoors or outdoors or both and what types of loads that you need to transport. Once you understand your specific needs, it would be easy to match up to the best type of forklift. When you understand your requirements exactly you can make the right choice.

Renting is another good way to try out different units if you want to try out various features and see what type of choices are available. This is a cheaper way to determine if the machine you have chosen can keep up with you on the job location.
