Wichita Falls is situated approximately one hundred twenty miles northwest of Dallas within north-central Texas. The Oklahoma borders lies around 15 miles north. The city is serviced by lots of highways, such as Routes 281, 287, 82 and 277, the Texas State Highways 79 and 240 and the Interstate I-44. It is the county seat of Wichita County and is considered the primary transportation centre of North Texas.

The city was first established in the mid-1800s. Soon after, the arrival of the very first trail during 1882 brought an influx of settlers to the region. A lumberyard was quickly constructed as was a general merchandise store. The arrival of more railroads stimulated the economy and Wichita Falls quickly became a transportation and supply center for northwest Texas and southern Oklahoma. It was incorporated during the year 1889. Oil became increasingly more prominent and soon became the main economic focus of the city of Wichita Falls. The North Texas Fields were producing 46 percent of the states oil supply by 1913. The Great Depression slowed the building boom created by the economic prosperity.
